The Story

Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 2004 by Jan Ernstberger, owner of a chain of more than 30 hair salons across the country, REF was born from a simple insight: salon shelves were full of products that took up space without adding real value to a stylist's work. REF set out to do the opposite, a concise, best-performing lineup where every product earns its place. Still family-owned today, with Jan's son Edward Ernstberger leading the company as CEO since 2019, REF is built on a philosophy of Nature + Science, pairing carefully selected botanical ingredients with proven cosmetic technology.
